Scholarship

APPA's Institute for Facilities Management consists of a multi-track progressive program beginning at a basic level of facilities management and building to more technical and advanced levels of management skills. The intention of the week-long program, which is offered every January and September, is to build a comprehensive base of knowledge through four complementary sessions.

The coursework focuses on Energy & Utilities, Operations & Maintenance, Planning, Design & Construction, and General Administration. APPA believes that high quality training and education is vitally important to the facilities management profession. APPA's scholarship program helps to ensure access for qualified individuals.

Scholarship Policy

1. The APPA Scholarship Program was established "to stimulate further development in the field of facilities management and to advance the purposes of the Association," according to APPA bylaws.
2. Only people presently employed full-time in the field of facilities management at an APPA member institution are eligible.
3. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the regional organizations and will be awarded by the Educational Programs Committee on an individual basis. (Most regions also offer their own Institute scholarships. See regional criteria for additional scholarship requirements.)
4. The amount of a scholarship grant will be at the discretion of the Educational Programs Committee. Normally, scholarships will be granted to cover registration fees at APPA's Institute for Facilities Management.
5. One registration scholarship per region for each APPA Institute has been authorized by the APPA Board of Directors.
6. Preference will be given to people who plan to pursue or continue a career in facilities management and who display high motivation and leadership ability.
7. Scholarships will normally be granted to an individual only once.
8. Send your completed and endorsed application by August for either of the two Institute sessions.
9. Each region will make its selection based on its own set of criteria. The regional contact person will then forward the name of the region's recommended scholarship recipient to APPA's Vice President for Educational Programs, who will verify the results and notify the selected recipients and other applicants. All applicants will be notified in early November regarding the status of their application.
